Boise State 43, Oklahoma 42

Un-freaking-believable.  If you missed this one, you missed the best bowl game of the season so far.  And that’s in a season of exciting bowl games.  Boise State–located in a region of the country more known for Russets than rushing–took down one of the premiere football programs in the country in a Fiesta Bowl overtime game that clocked in at just a little under five hours.  Far more than just a “glad to be there” team, they showed that they are capable of winning the Big Game.

It’s time to abolish the BCS in favor of a system that will bring true parity to college football.  Let’s replace the BCS with a playoff system that allows a less-established football program to compete toe-to-toe with the big boys.  Boise State annhilated every team they were supposed to this year–including the team that would eventually take down USC.  Give them a chance to play for all the marbles, for crying out loud.  After the championship game between Ohio State and Florida next Monday, I’m going to unveil my plans to make this a reality without dismantling the traditional bowls already in existence.  Stay tuned for details.

Congratulations to Hermiston native Jared Zabransky, who lit up the field, didn’t give up in the face of insurmountable odds, and wound up as MVP of the game.  Very gutsy performance.  Congratulations also to Bronco running back Ian Johnson, who proposed to his cheerleader girlfriend on national TV right in the midst of the victory celebration.  Come to think of it, another gutsy performance.  That was the best pass we saw all night.

Truly amazing. I have rooted for Boise St. for a long time (except when they played UGA last year). That game last night was one of the top 3 or 4 I’ve ever seen.

You really ARE a die-hard fan if you stayed up to watch that thing on the East Coast. It wasn’t over until after 11pm our time.
